The “Città di Casperia” Band: Fifty Years of Music and Tradition

Along the medieval streets of Casperia, during patron saint festivals and the village’s main celebrations, the sound of brass and percussion announces the arrival of the “Città di Casperia” Band, one of the most representative cultural organisations in the village.

The re-establishment of the Band in 1975

The “Città di Casperia” Band was officially re-established in 1975, thanks to the initiative of several musicians who had been members of the previous post-war band.

Their aim was not only to bring music back to the village streets, but also to provide young people with an activity capable of encouraging their cultural, social and personal development. This initiative created an organisation that has continued to evolve over the years without losing its connection with its origins.

In 2025, Casperia celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Band’s re-establishment: an important milestone built on a passion for music, voluntary commitment and a strong sense of belonging to the community.

The Band is more than just a musical ensemble: it is a meeting place for different generations and has accompanied Casperia’s civic, religious and social life for decades.

A musical ensemble bringing generations together

Conducted by Maestro Giuseppe De Simoni, the Band brings together more than thirty musicians. Alongside its most experienced members, young people have the opportunity to begin studying an instrument and gain their first musical experience as part of a group.

This sharing of knowledge between generations is one of the most valuable aspects of the band tradition. Learning to play together means developing musical skills, as well as listening, discipline, cooperation and respect for others.

Rehearsals, concerts and parades therefore become opportunities to spend time together and contribute actively to the cultural life of the village.

The partnership with the Majorettes Group

Since 1995, the Band has been accompanied by the Casperia Majorettes Group. Their choreography, uniforms and coordinated movements make performances even more engaging, especially during parades and outdoor events.

The partnership between the musicians and majorettes has gradually become one of the group’s most distinctive features. In 2013 and 2014, the Casperia Majorettes achieved third and second place respectively at the National Competition for Majorette Groups in Faleria.

In 2025, the fiftieth anniversary of the Band and the thirtieth anniversary of the Majorettes Group were celebrated together: two closely connected stories that have grown side by side through music, performance and community participation.

The soundtrack to Casperia’s celebrations

The Band accompanies many important moments in village life, including religious festivals, civic celebrations, processions, commemorations and concerts.

The summer and Christmas concerts are traditionally among the most eagerly awaited events. On these occasions, the repertoire can range from traditional marches and classical music arrangements to film soundtracks and some of the best-known pieces of contemporary music.

For visitors to Casperia, attending a performance by the Band offers an opportunity to discover an authentic aspect of local life. Music fills the squares and narrow streets of the historic centre, creating a captivating connection between the medieval setting and a tradition that remains very much alive.

A tradition looking towards the future

The history of the “Città di Casperia” Band demonstrates how a local organisation can preserve the village’s collective memory while also offering new opportunities to younger generations.

Behind every concert are many hours of study, rehearsals, organisation and voluntary commitment. It is this shared effort that allows music to continue accompanying Casperia and its traditions.

When the Band marches through the village streets, it carries more than a musical repertoire: it tells a story of fifty years of friendship, participation and love for the local area.
