Its churches belong to different periods and reveal the history of the village through architecture, works of art and local traditions.

An itinerary dedicated to these churches can be enjoyed at a relaxed pace, leaving time for the alleys, small squares and panoramic views encountered along the way.

San Giovanni Battista at the highest point of the village

Following the concentric streets of the historic centre uphill, visitors reach the summit of Casperia, where the parish church of San Giovanni Battista stands. Its position makes it a natural landmark during the walk, while the bell tower can be recognised from several parts of the village.

The church was restored and enlarged from 1515 onwards and retains its original Romanesque bell tower. Inside are several works of art, an important organ and a permanent monumental Nativity scene in the sacristy. The building therefore brings together elements from different periods, from the Middle Ages to later renovations.

Before entering, it is advisable to check opening times and to respect any religious services taking place.

Santissima Annunziata and Casperia’s Baroque heritage

The Church of Santissima Annunziata is another important stop. Dating from the seventeenth century, the building introduces a different architectural language from the medieval walls and defensive walkways that characterise the village.

Its presence recalls a period when Casperia’s urban fabric was enriched with significant religious and civic buildings. A visit can be combined with a walk through the surrounding alleys, observing façades, portals and small stone details.

Santa Maria in Legarano, between art and Roman history

Just outside the village to the north stands the Church of Santa Maria in Legarano. Its wide portico and connection with a former monastery make it worth visiting, together with the rural landscape surrounding Casperia.

The church was built over an earlier Roman villa. Remains of mosaic floors can still be seen in the sacristy, while sixteenth-century terracotta figures by artists from Abruzzo are also preserved inside.

This layering of different periods makes Santa Maria in Legarano particularly fascinating: visitors move from the memory of Roman times to Christian spirituality in a peaceful setting surrounded by the Sabina countryside.

How to organise the itinerary

wear comfortable shoes, as the historic centre includes slopes, steps and stone paving;

visit San Giovanni Battista and Santissima Annunziata during the first part of the walk;

plan Santa Maria in Legarano separately and check accessibility and opening times;

allow time for photographs and panoramic stops;

maintain a respectful attitude inside religious buildings.

Casperia’s churches are more than individual stops: together they form a journey through the history, art and landscape of the village.

A visit to enjoy without rushing

This itinerary does not require a rigid schedule. Casperia invites visitors to proceed slowly, observing the views that appear between one stop and the next. The churches become landmarks within a broader walk combining culture, silence and everyday village life.

Further historical and visitor information is available on the official pages dedicated to Casperia by VisitLazio and Italia.it.

An itinerary through Casperia’s main churches, from the historic centre to the countryside, discovering art, architecture and traces of different periods.

[37,55

post-1036","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog-en","category-stories-and-curiosities
["https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1.jpg",1366,2048,false
https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1.jpg",1366,2048,false
https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1-768x1151.jpg",768,1151,true
https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1.jpg",1366,2048,false],"1536x1536":["https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1-1025x1536.jpg",1025,1536,true],"2048x2048":["https://www.vivicasperia.it/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/chiesa._2-1.jpg",1366,2048,false
An itinerary through Casperia’s main churches, from the historic centre to the countryside, discovering art, architecture and traces of different periods.
["GET
